Abstract

Ben’s abstract paintings differ from his other more representational art. They are painted in a style that prioritizes color, texture and movement over shape and form. In 2011 the artist invented a new style of art. The concept started with wanting to increase the dimension and impact of a painting while at the same time making sure that it stayed within the standard proportions of wall art. He began by using multiple panels and canvases layered together, bringing it to three dimensions. Mixed media elements were sometimes added. The final concept became a large piece of art made up of smaller elements supporting a central theme, connected and layered in a compositionally appealing way. DeHart decided to call this type of art a “layered mosaic”. His series “Experiential” is intended to fully explore this concept.
